National and International Learning Programmes

Guvon Academy is committed to ensuring that we produce candidates who have the skills and knowledge to be successful in the world of Tourism, Hospitality and Cheffing. Accredited as a Skills Development Provider by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) our programmes cover the knowledge, practical and work-based learning required by industry.

National accredited qualifications:

  • National Certificate at each level: N4, N5, N6:
    the National N Diploma (on completion of N4-N6 theoretical, practical and workplace components).

N4 – N6 in Hospitality and Catering  

N4 – N6 in Tourism 

Each of the accredited learning programmes are three-years in duration and require a Guvon Academy student to attend theory and practical lectures at the campus, including work-place learning at one of the designated Guvon Hotels and Spas properties for the duration of the learning programme selected.  This work-place experience ensures you receive the necessary “real world” training which is desperately required by employers and industry leaders.  You study and build a CV!

ithsa-logoOur international accreditation with the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) in the United Kingdom (UK) and the Chartered Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (CTHSA) means that our learning programmes are endorsed by industry leaders and it is globally recognised.  Offering a range of Levels and Awards to supplement the national qualification and allowing candidates to achieve their hospitality, tourism and chef dreams. 

Accredited international levels from the Chartered Institute of Tourism and Hospitality:

  • Level 2 Basic Programme in Culinary Skills 

The Basic Culinary Skills Programme is a foundation level programme that introduces candidates to essential kitchen skills that will prepare them for employment in this environment.  

  • Level 3 Foundation Programme in Professional Cookery 

This programme is aimed at those students who wish to study further in Professional Cookery; expanding on their basic range of food preparation skills.

  • Level 3 Intermediate Programme in Professional Cookery

The Intermediate Programme in Professional Cookery is a more substantial professional cookery qualification and offeres additional options that allow students to focus on specific areas of interest. 

  • Level 4 Upper Intermediate Programme in Professional Culinary Arts. 

The Upper Intermediate Programme in Professional Culinary Arts develops culinary skills within a working-kitchen environment.  Learning is enhances through demonstrations and appropriate theory sessions.  

  • Level 3 Foundation Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management

Level 3 Foundation Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management is a standalone qualification.  It is a perfect foundation from which you can launch your career, study further with ITHSA, or apply for first year acceptance at a number of appropriate overseas universities. 

  • Level 4 Undergraduate Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management. 

This programme covers the fundamental operational aspects and key management principles within the Tourism and Hospitality industry.  Students can specialise in either Tourism Management or Hospitality Management. 

  • Level 5 Advanced Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management

This programme aims to provide students with an understanding of the managerial, decision-making and leadership aspects of the tourism and hospitality industry.  It is designed to develop necessary independent research and study skills that are required when working at Senior Managerial Level in the industry.

Please note that CTH Programmes are not registered on the South African Qualifications Framework. CTH programmes are registered on the UK National Qualifications Framework (NQF) or Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF.)

Please note that the international awards can only be done in conjunction with a national qualification, which means you have the opportunity to achieve a national qualification at the same time as completing a globally recognised award from a reputable accreditation body.
